Most of the 17 and 18 year old learners involved in the performance of the internal school tasks as part of The Gateway School Vocational Training Programme have shown great commitment and dedication towards their roles and responsibilities.

With our Vocational Training and Transition Planning programme at the Gateway School we strive to focus our learners on their future, to empower our parents to make informed decisions about their child’s future, to improve the learners' level of independence and to equip the learners with excellent skills to work either in the open labour market or a sheltered employment centres.

For most young people in the general population, the transition to adult life is characterized by less parental control and involvement in the child’s life. When mainstream learners exit high school, it is an exciting experience for them and their families as they enter a more independent life. However, when learners with intellectual disabilities consider what will happen next, their possibilities are limited and in reality they may rely on their parents for the rest of their lives.

It is already the second term of 2009 and we are proud to share our learners’ progress and achievements in The Vocational Training Program.
