What a freezing winter crept up on us this year! The one day we had lovely sunny weather and we were walking around in short sleeved shirts and shorts - the next the birdbath at school was FROZEN solid! What happened to autumn?

 

On our return from the October school holiday, we were blessed with green grass, blooming flowers and lovely warm spring weather. A busy term lies ahead of us as report cards are to be readied, the prize giving preparations get underway and rehearsals start for the Christmas play.

Na die kort Oktober skoolvakansie, is ons geseën met groen grassies, bloeisels en lieflike somersweer. ’n Baie besige termyn lê vir ons voor met die rapporte wat binnekort uitgedeel gaan word, die prysuitdeling en dan natuurlik die Kersspel.

Die winter het ons omtrént aangeval dié jaar. Die een dag loop ons nog met ons somerskleertjies en geniet die sonskyn, en die volgende dag is die voëlbad by die skool kliphard gevries. Wat het dan van die herfs geword?

A cool autumn wind greeted us at the start of the new term. We trust that every-one is well rested and prepared to face this term’s challenges with zeal and enthusiasm. The main focus this term will rest on the preparation for the upcoming Eistedd-fod. We hope to be as successful as the previous years. This is, once again, the term where the Eisteddfod is high on the priority list and we are again aiming at a clean sweep amongst the other participants.

'n Nuwe kwartaal het aangebreek en ons word soggens begroet met 'n koel herfswindjie. Ons vertrou almal is uitgerus en oorgehaal om hierdie kwartaal se uitdagings met oorgawe en entoesiasme aan te pak.

Weereens gedurende hierdie kwartaal is die voorbereiding vir die Eisteddfod hoog op die prioriteitslys en ons beoog om weer skoonskip te maak onder die deelnemers.

It hasn’t been two months and the school year has been as busy as ever! 2011 promises to be a year packed with excitement!

The learners put their hearts and souls into the athletics season. They honoured the school’s name with their excellent results at various athletics events. Winter sports are around the corner and whilst the training of our netball and soccer teams is underway, our wheelchair children are participating in their own sports - including table tennis!

Dit is nog nie twee maande in die nuwe skooljaar nie en ʼn magdom aktiwiteite het reeds plaasgevind! 2011 gaan beslis ʼn bedrywige jaar wees! Die leerders het die atletiekseisoen opgewonde en vol energie betree. Ons leerders het die skool se naam hoog gehou met die pragtige uitslae wat op die atletiekbyeenkomste behaal is. Die wintersport is voor die deur en terwyl sokker en netbal die fokus is, sal daar vir ons fisiek gestremde leerders ander sportaktiwiteite aangebied word.

We would like to take this opportunity at the start of the school year for 2011, to extend a warm welcome to all parents and friends of The Gate-way School. We hope that you rested well during December and experi-enced the peace and goodwill of the festive season.

Aan die begin van 2011 wens ons graag vir u elkeen sterkte toe vir die jaar wat voorlê.

Ons vertrou dat u ‘n wonderlike rustyd agter die rug het en dat u werklike vrede en vreugde oor die Feestyd kon beleef.

2010 was a year filled to capacity at The Gateway School. There seemed to be a continuous stream of activities, and both the staff and learners were doing their utmost to ensure success in all these endeavours. The highlight of the year was without a doubt the Revue.

2010 was ʼn propvol jaar by The Gateway Skool. Die aktiwiteite het mekaar een na die ander opgevolg en die personeel en leerders was voltyds aan die gang, met die hoogtepunt ongetwyfeld die Revue. Alle goeie dinge kom egter tot ʼn einde, so ook die skooljaar van 2010.

What a busy term we’ve had at the school! Although the nationwide strike had all of us feeling disheartened we can say with pride, that the learners were the highest priority of The Gateway School staff members. We are fortunate to have such wonderful staff members who were present every day during this difficult time.

Wat `n besige derde kwartaal was dit nie! Alhoewel die landswye staking deur onderwysers ons almal moedeloos gehad het, het The Gateway Skool personeel gewys dat hulle grootste lojaliteit by die leerders lê en het hulle elke dag vir werk opgedaag.

Ons is trots op julle!

Although it is still officially winter at The Gateway School, temperatures are rising as enthusiasm is mounting for the upcoming revue.

Alhoewel dit eintlik nog steeds winter is, styg die temperature by The Gateway Skool soos opgewondenheid toeneem oor die komende revue.

Welcome back to The Gateway School after a l-o-o-o-n-n-g winter holiday. The soccer mania is over and South Africa can now continue with a more relaxed pace. At The Gateway we are definitely going to continue with our hard work.

Welkom terug by The Gateway Skool na ‘n l-a-a-a-n-n-g wintervakansie.  Die sokkermania is verby en Suid-Afrika kan nou weer voortgaan met ‘n rustiger lewe. Hier by The Gateway Skool gaan ons beslis voort met ons harde werk.

We are already halfway through the term, with the end of autumn upon us. We are still being blessed with lovely rains and the trees in our grounds are turning beautiful shades of red and yellow, a sure sign that winter is just around the corner.

Dit is reeds die helfte van die termyn en met die einde van die herfs in sig, word ons nog steeds geseёn met lieflike reёns. Ons kan egter reeds baie roesbruin blare in ons pragtige skooltuine sien en weet dus dat die winter om die draai is.

A warm welcome back to all parents, learners and Gateway staff after an enjoyable April holiday! Autumn has arrived and we trust that everybody had a well deserved rest, and that you are excited about the new term with all its activities. The revue practise will continue in earnest this term and we are looking forward to the performances in September.

'n Hartlike welkom terug aan alle ouers, leerders en personeel na ‘n heerlike Aprilvakansie! Herfs is hier en ons hoop almal is uitgerus en opgewonde oor die nuwe termyn wat op hande is. Dit gaan ‘n kort maar besige termyn wees. Revue oefening gaan voort in volle swang en almal sien uit na die opening daarvan in September.

Although the term started at a relatively easy pace, it soon changed when the learners started to get themselves into shape for our annual inter house athletics meeting.  Due to the inclement weather uninterrupted practices were not always possible, but the athletes persevered and this was evident when we had our meeting. 

Na 'n rustige begin  het die kwartaal skielik momentum gekry en die leerders het met groot entoesiasme begin oefen vir die atletiekbyeenkoms.  Aanvanklik het die reën verhoed dat hulle volstoom kon oefen, maar nadat hulle eers aan die gang was, kon niks hulle keer nie.

We would like to welcome back all our parents, learners, teachers, assistants and administration staff. We trust you have enjoyed the holiday and are as excited as we are to meet the challenges of the first term of 2010.
